Title: Social Media Manager
Reports to: Communications Director

Salary Range: $55,000-$70,000 DOE
Position Location: California, flexible
California Environmental Voters and the California Environmental Voters Education Fund are seeking a Social Media Manager. The person in this position will be responsible for managing our social media presence. We are looking for candidates with a track record of growing a social media audience, creating compelling content, and moving people to take action online. The ideal candidate will be ready to come up with creative ways to achieve the organization’s social media goals and eager to jump in and get the job done.

The California Environmental Voters Education Fund (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters Ed Fund), our 501(c)3 sister organization, works through programs focused on voter engagement and mobilization, issue advocacy, legislative accountability, and research and opinion polling to provide the public, policymakers, and environmental advocates with the resources they need to make California’s air, water and natural resources cleaner and greener through the democratic process.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Social Media Manager is responsible for the following:
Managing our social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok, including maintaining a content calendar, creating engaging content, monitoring and analyzing our posts, and interacting with our audiences.
Collaborating with our political, philanthropy, and legislatives teams to translate our organization’s priorities into social media campaigns, including online advocacy, grassroots mobilization, fundraising and membership development.
Growing the size and engagement of our social media audience through organic efforts and paid advertising campaigns, as well as through partnerships and collaborations with community leaders, like minded organizations, and influencers.
Managing a consistent video content calendar and growing our nascent content on YouTube, TikTok, and Reels.
Using analytics to measure and report on the effectiveness of our social media activities and proposing strategies based on this data to refine and hone our efforts.
Creating written content, graphics, and videos for our social media channels, website, email campaigns, and other channels as needed.
Providing messaging input and talking points when working with influencers and community leaders for marketing campaigns.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
WHO YOU ARE & KEYS TO SUCCESS
To be successful in this job, you possess the following qualities and experience:
You have 5 years of experience doing social media campaigns, online advocacy and organizing, and fundraising. You have past experience working for political campaigns, elected officials, advocacy organizations, or nonprofits. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
You have a track record of creating and growing an organization’s social media presence. You know the ins and outs of creating engaging content and ads on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and you’re comfortable producing video for YouTube, TikTok and Reels. You are an excellent writer and editor with a keen eye for detail.
You have an eye for what makes compelling visual content and experience using Canva, Adobe, or other design software. You have experience with social and online platforms like Sprout Social, Hootsuite, WordPress, Drupal, Salsa, ActionKit, or Blackbaud.
You’re passionate about fighting climate change and recognize that Black, Indigenous, and all people of color have been bearing the biggest burden of our pollution-based economy for generations. You are committed to building resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and create a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
If you were here right now, you would be:
Mapping out a social media content calendar and coordinating with our team to sync our social media efforts with our legislative, advocacy, and fundraising campaigns.
Planning creative ways to share live “climate art” installations on social media that are taking place in cities throughout the state.
Creating content for TikTok and Reels that explains the importance of political redistricting in our state and highlights why Californians should care and take action.
Exploring a partnership with a like-minded Instagram influencer and planning a collaboration that will be aimed at helping us reach new audiences.
