The Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute (Gates MRI) is a non-profit biotech dedicated to accelerating the product development timeline for diseases that disproportionately affect the world’s poorest populations, including malaria, tuberculosis, and diarrheal diseases—diseases that combined cause five deaths every minute- and a range of challenges in maternal and newborn health. THE POSITION

Reporting to the HR Leader (Head of HR for Gates MRI), the Human Resources Generalist at the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute headquartered in Cambridge, MA serves as the primary contact to Gates MRI staff and resolves inquiries and requests for HR related transactions. The role will need to understand and interpret HR policies and programs to provide exceptional support and service to managers and employees thereby creating a positive employee experience. As we are a team of ‘strategic doers’ here at the Gates MRI you will have a range of obligations and opportunities that span across the Human Resources function, and you will manage all operations activities throughout the employee life-cycle. Your knowledge and experience will facilitate your ability to coach managers and employees through moderately complex employee relations issues while working on a variety of HR projects thus building credibility to improve HR processes at Gates MRI. This role is also critical in managing the HR employee data in Workday and personnel files. Your contributions in all these areas will have direct impact on how we support our employees and strive toward the one metric that we measure ourselves by: lives saved.
Works in partnership with colleagues within the Gates MRI including Finance, Legal, IT, Facilities and across the organization to ensure our people have an amazing employee engagement experience.
Partners and collaborates effectively with the HR team at the Gates Foundation to ensure process and policies are integrated effectively.
Collaborates closely with Talent Acquisition on HR initiatives and application of policies.
Responds to and efficiently resolves inquiries from employees and managers relating to HR policies and programs, maintaining strict confidentiality as needed.
Manages all HR Operation activities including onboarding and offboarding of employees, and other employee life-cycle related programs.
Handles employee and position data in Workday including data entry, integrity, auditing, and reporting; keeps all relevant HR systems updated real-time as required for role.
Determines appropriate communication strategy for our benefits (including open enrollment, employee Wellbeing (Physical, Emotional, and Financial Wellness) and develop education programs to ensure employees understand their benefits and their value.
Analyze trends and metrics to develop solutions, programs and help shape our HR practices and policies.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum of 5-7 years HR experience
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Strong business and HR acumen, including strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking and analysis.
Coaching and consulting skills
Experience in working in a highly matrixed organization
Strong analytical, organizational, and auditing skills required.
Proficient user of Workday experience preferred.
Previous experience working with a biotech and non-profit organization preferred.
Advanced/Proficient abilities in Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Teams).
Excellent oral and written communication skills requiring diplomacy, discretion, and good judgement.
Ability to interact with individuals from varied backgrounds, communication styles, and positions internally and externally.
Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret and explain HR policies, programs, and processes.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, administrative and customer service skills.
Ability to handle extremely sensitive and business confidential information with a high degree of professionalism.
Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team environment.
Strong attention to detail, dedication to accuracy, and high sense of urgency
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to deal with ambiguity.
